Three people, including two cattle traders and a motorcycle driver, lost their lives in a road accident on Wednesday evening in Mujigo Hill, Buyengero commune, Rumonge province, southwestern Burundi.

The incident occurred when the motorcycle, carrying five passengers, crashed into a tree before overturning. According to local media reports, three of the passengers died on the spot, while the remaining two were injured and promptly transported to Buyengero commune hospital for medical treatment.

The group had been traveling from a cattle market in nearby Bururi province and were en route to Buyengero commune when the accident took place. Authorities confirmed that the motorcycle was overloaded and had mechanical issues, raising concerns over road safety. Police have urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This accident follows another tragic event earlier this week, when three people died in a collision between a motorcycle and a military truck at Cibare Hill, Muyinga commune, in northeastern Burundi. The crash occurred when the motorcycle, carrying a man, his wife, and another passenger, attempted to overtake a Probox car, only to collide with an oncoming truck. All three riders were killed instantly.

In another devastating incident last week, eight people, including a woman and her child, died in a road accident in Mugamba Commune, Bururi Province, southern Burundi. The accident took place in a mountainous area with steep slopes and sharp bends. The vehicle, traveling at high speed, failed to navigate a curve and veered off the road, resulting in the fatal crash. More than ten others, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were transported to Matana Hospital for medical treatment.
