Burundi’s Urunani Basketball Club has been defeated by Cape Verde’s Kriol Star in the semifinals of the BAL 2025 qualifiers, with a final score of 82-90. The loss ends Urunani’s hopes of advancing further in the competition.
Urunani had shown strong performances in earlier rounds, securing victories against Matero Magic and City Oilers. However, their momentum was halted in this crucial semifinal match.
A fan attributed the defeat to errors made by key players, saying, “Our club lost because some of our players committed too many fouls.”
Coach Hakim offered additional insights into the team’s struggles: “We didn’t handle the defeat well. Fatigue from Sunday’s game impacted our players, and we missed several scoring opportunities,” he said.
Despite the setback, Urunani still has a chance to compete for third place. They will face either Nairobi City Thunder from Kenya or Uganda’s City Oilers on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
